Today I am grateful for the endless surprises I get to experience as a mother. Watching a child grow is to be astonished at times. At the moments when you are complacent and not expecting it, for your child to offer you a moment so simple that it's brilliance leaves you breathless or full of joy or deeply peaceful.
Today Gerry requested the "dinosaur song" in the car. He normally pays no attention to the music - unless it is to tell me to turn it off - so I happily obliged. He also wanted to "watch" the song "I'm gunna catch you" several times in a row. He loved the Laurie Berkner DVD when he was little and it was a happy moment to return to.
Then, moments later he surprised me again by spontaneously making letters with his pretzels. "What letter is this mommy?"
"T!" I exclaimed happily.
"That's right!" He was happy for me too.
Then he made another letter and I couldn't look because I was driving so he described it to me and I said, "that's an H" because he wasn't sure. He wanted to know what letter was for Mario and didn't know how to make an M, so Marisol showed him. Then he made an X and later a triangle.
What a fun moment.
I'm also glad for a high score on the 2048 game - I got a 1024 tile for the first time! Too bad I couldn't build up to a second one. Overall a productive day though.
